- We need to perform a comprehensive new patient exam and complete series of x-rays in order to determine what type of cleaning you need. We prefer to call your cleaning a periodontal visit or a prophy if your gums are healthy.
- It has been conservatively estimated that over 90% of adults have some level of gum disease. This gum disease ranges from an inflammation of the gum tissue known as Gingivitis to more severe periodontal disease known as Periodontitis which involves not only the gum but a loss of bone around the teeth.
- The doctor’s diagnosis of your particular gum condition helps us to determine how much time needs to be set aside with our hygienist for optimal care.
- There are many factors which can affect your gum condition including but not limited to:
How long it has been since your last prophy or periondontal treatment.
If there is any history of gum disease affecting you or your family members.
If there is a medical condition or medication which could be a contributing factor to the progress of your gum disease.
Your ability to recognize and perform through with your home care techniques.
Your willingness to become a “co-therapist” in the management of your gum condition.
Thank you for your confidence in us. We will attempt to satisfy your every dental need. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
